Sierra RS500 Cosworth
The RS500 Cosworth is a legendary car, it has a reputation for fearsome power and terrible turbo lag! the RS500 was produced between 1986 and 1992 producing somewhere between 204 and 220bhp in standard guise, in modified guise however considerably more with race spec cars producing some 400 bhp making them very successful on the British and world touring car scenes as well as the WRC and other motorsport arenas.
This particular example came to us as a potential show car, having been extensively modified, bigger turbo and upgraded fuel injection system, AP brakes and infinitely tuneable suspension setup, the car came to us in a nearly but not quite finished state, one of the major issues to overcome was the condition of the cars beautiful solid black paintwork, this area of the car it down somewhat, so along with all the other usual areas this was our first job to tackle.
RS500 paintwork looking a little tired.
We started to tackle this job in the same way as every other vehicle that comes through the workshop, so after the de contamination stages had been completed and the car was safely dried we could get to work on the cars paintwork, and as with most solid black paint paint finishes we need to pay particular attention to the clarity of the paintwork, so with this in mind we spent the next three days correcting and refining the paintwork to leave a deep luxurious high gloss black finish.
Once the paintwork was completed we could move onto another area that the owner wanted specific attention paid to, the underneath of the car, so with the car on the lift we could get to work on the cars undercarriage cleaning and polishing the cars undercarriage bringing it up to show spec.
So with the car completed, we could then move onto the what to use on the cars paintwork to protect it going forward, with this in mind we opted for Kamikaze’s Infinity wax, this wax is unique in that it leaves the beautiful deep wet look gloss that only a wax can give with the added benefit of having a sealant element, this wax is a hybrid product which contains a high content carnauba wax combined with that of a ceramic sealant., with the car completed the only thing left was to take more pictures.
